Vertex Festival Vertex Festival

Buena Vista, Colorado August 5 - 7, 2016

Participate

The mountains make great people. It's as simple as that. We don't know whether it's the fresh air, the elevation, or our adventurous hearts. There's something special here. Seeing this greatness, Vertex invites everyone to make their own contribution. This is a call to get involved as we pioneer a new festival frontier together.

You can join the arc of the Vertex story through performance, design, charity, hard work, or just plain fun.

THE ART INSTALLATION SUMMONS

Vertex is a place for all the arts, from the melodious to the machined. Our Art Installation Summons aims to integrate diverse projects of the second variety.

The inaugural festival will feature several special areas of artistic discovery, in which a variety of interactive and unique installations will be displayed. The Vertex art team is currently seeking pieces for those areas. In order to qualify, the work you have in mind must be weather-proof, people-proof, and of high creative quality.

STICKER DESIGN CONTEST

The Vertex Sticker Design Contest is a call for designers who are inspired by Colorado and new frontiers to create the most widely distributed piece of art in the first year of the Vertex Story.

If your sticker design is selected you will receive two (2) Base Camp Tickets to Vertex and your artwork will be distributed to 2016 festival attendees!

FOOD DRIVE

In partnership with Conscious Alliancea nonprofit committed to supporting communities in crisis through hunger relief and youth empowerment, Vertex will host a food drive through their ‘Art That Feeds’ program! All food will be donated to the local area food bank to combat regional hunger!

The first attendees who donate 20 non-perishable food items or a suggested monetary donation will receive a limited edition Vertex poster, created by a very talented poster artist! Food donations will be collected at the Conscious Alliance ‘Art That Feeds’ booth, which will be depicted on the Vertex guide and map.

Conscious Alliance always encourages food donations to be low-sodium and health oriented products. Organic food donations are especially encouraged. Ramen noodles and expired food items will not be accepted for the poster.

Thank you for your continued support in feeding the hungry everywhere music plays!

HEADCOUNT

HeadCount works with musicians to promote participation in democracy.

MUSIC IN SCHOOLS

Vertex strongly believes that our home should be a place of musical discovery year-round.

Vertex’s Music In Schools Program works to help support music programing in public schools. The money donated will help pay for Honor Band and Choir travel expenses to competitions and festivals across the state during the 2016-17 school year, and will help support the purchase of new band and choir performance uniforms.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is a core value of Vertex. Buena Vista’s snow-capped peaks, rolling meadows and mountain spring-fed creek provide vivid inspiration for the event and our greening efforts. In celebrating and supporting the resiliency of nature, Vertex is focused on sustainable event production and conservation of our home as if it were a national park.

2016 Sustainability Initiatives include:

  • Sourcing regional materials and people to build our festival
  • A focus on creating reusable structures and materials for use year after year
  • Assistance for artists and designers in repurposing and recycling their used materials after the festival
  • Vendor requirements and guidance in sustainable purchasing and operations to minimize the material sent to landfills
  • Food and beverages served using only certified compostable materials
  • Educational signage providing a sense of place while supporting waste diversion
  • Environmental impact data collection to help benchmark and track resources used and conserved through efficiency measures
  • Cultivating a sense of guardianship for our home in the heart of every person who sets foot in Cottonwood Meadows

Stay tuned! As this program continues to grow, there will be greater opportunity for participation and positive impact.
